Ensure that you read these policies thoroughly as you are liable for material checked out through your account.
Clarkson students, faculty, and staff must use their Clarkson ID to check out materials.
Faculty, students, and staff of the Associated Colleges may use their college ID to check out materials.
Area community residents may request a Clarkson library card at the Circulation Desk.
We are an Empire State AcademicShare library. Therefore, AcademicSHARE Member libraries minimally agree to allow on-site access and lend materials to any current college student, staff, and/or faculty member from another Empire State AcademicShare member academic library. However, at minimum, a verifiable valid college I.D. is required. The library may choose to treat the college I.D. as confirmation the student/faculty member is in good standing. Other proof of identification or status may be required. For a list of AcademicSHARE Libraries click here.
- Books, video/AV, government documents and theses/dissertations circulate for the semester.
- Journals circulate for one week.
- Reference materials may be loaned out with special permission from a reference librarian.

You can renew standard loans through Your Library Account.
If you have any issues renewing through your account, you can renew checked out materials in person, by phone, or by e-mail to the Circulation Desk.
All library materials you have checked out are subject to recall
- The library reserves the right to request the return of books when needed by another borrower
- The initial borrower is guaranteed to have library material checked out for two weeks before the item can be recalled
- Materials needed for reserve can be recalled at any time
- To avoid fines, please return recalled items by the new due date indicated in the email notice that is sent to you regardless of the original due date
This policy applies to all Library users including faculty. It also applies year-round; holidays and interim periods are not excepted.
Alteration or destruction of library property is subject to replacement fees.
Patrons are responsible for any material that is not returned or renewed by the due date. Reminder and overdue notices are sent.
*All lost items are subject to replacement fees. This includes print material, audio/visual material, equipment, etc. Please see the information below for details.
Lost or Damaged Items
If you do not return your checked out material by the due date, you will receive 3 notifications advising you that the item is late:
- 3 days after the due date
- 2 weeks after the due date
- 6 weeks after the due date
After the final notification at 6 weeks after the due date, the item will be assumed lost and you will be responsible for paying for a replacement. The price of the item will be determined by the publisher, plus a $25 processing fee. The replacement fees could exceed or be less than the value of the bill you originally receive based on actual market value of materials. For Interlibrary Loan items, the price of the item is determined by the lending library. Charges will be forgiven if the item is returned.
If you have late items checked out, you will not be able to check out any additional items until payments are made in full.
Contact askalibrarian@clarkson.edu regarding payment.
You may renew the item before it is marked as lost, provided there are no other holds already in place. If there are holds on the item, it will be subject to recall, as detailed above.
For Course Reserve electronic equipment (such as headphones and HDMI cables), the replacement fees will be determined by the charges for equivalent items available from the University Bookstore.
