About the Artist

(Born 1947) Born in Ganado, Arizona on the Navajo reservation, William B. Franklin majored in Sociology and minored in Art at Northern Arizona University.

After starting with silversmithing, Franklin switched to painting in the 1970’s.  Currently he works in acrylics and oils, along with some sculpture.  He has won numerous first place and divisional awards and honors from the Museum of Northern Arizona Navajo Show and SWAIA (Santa Fe Indian Market).   In 2007 he received best of Show 1st Place at the Museum of Northern Arizona Navajo Show and Best of Classification and Best of Division 1st Place at Santa Fe’s Indian Market.

Franklin was given the Helen Hardin Memorial Award for the most promising painter.  May 2012 he was one of 22 Native American artists selected to exhibition at the Coconino Center for the Arts in the Native American Contemporary Art Exhibit limited to artists from the 4 corners area.
