How Students Can Use TRAIL in Claude
Claude · 1:00
What it shows: a lab notebook for working with AI — after every session, a record of what you asked, what the AI contributed, what you decided and what you verified.
Accurate as of October 2026. Menus, names and features change — read what your screen actually says.
Text description
Six steps in the Claude desktop app. One: create a Project, one home for your work. Two: add the TRAIL files to the project’s Context. Three: ask Claude to create your log book. Four: work on your project, session after session — drafting an outline, checking a citation Claude could not verify. Five: when you are done for the day, tell Claude “update my TRAIL,” then copy the entry it writes (what you asked, what AI contributed, what you decided, what you verified) and paste it into your log book. Six: review the log book any time — you, your instructor, your future self. The project, course and entries shown are illustrative.
