Graduate Students

Addrita Haque (Graduate Student)

I am a graduate student, pursuing my Master’s in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Clarkson University. I completed my B.Sc. in Water Resources Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in May, 2022.

In my graduate research I will be working on dynamics of microplastics in the riverine system. Coming from a riverine country, Bangladesh, I consider it a privilege to be engaged in water sector.

In my free time, I may pick up my canvas and paint a landscape!

Afeef Ahmad (PhD Student)

I am a graduate student pursuing my PhD in Water Resources Engineering at Clarkson University under the supervision of Dr. Abul Baki. My primary research focuses on the prediction of shoreline erosion using deep/machine learning. I completed my undergraduate in Civil Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore in 2016 and my M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Coventry University England in 2018. The US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor Scholarship funds my PhD program.

Speaking about my professional career, I have worked as a problem analyst in Amazon Australia. I have also served as a Lecturer of Civil Engineering in NUML, Islamabad. Prior to commencing my PhD, I was serving as Assistant Executive Engineer in the Federal Government of Pakistan. In my free time, I love to travel and enjoy road trips a lot.

Md Sajjad H. Tusher (PhD Student)

I’m a graduate student, pursuing my Ph.D. in Water Resources Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Abul Baki at Clarkson University. I received my B.Sc. in Water Resources Engineering (WRE) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh in May, 2023.

In my research, I will primarily focus on sediment transport, stream dynamics, turbulent flow fields and flow patterns in natural rivers and streams that might impact the quality of instream habitats as well as the ecosystem. To achieve this, I will employ both laboratory measurements in the Eco-hydraulics lab and numerical simulations in my research.

I love reciting the holy Qur’an in my non-working time, also I like travelling with my family members, reading book, cooking and playing cricket.

Naima Reggad (PhD Student)

I am a PhD student in the Water Resources Engineering Program at Clarkson University. I received my MSc in Water Resources Engineering in California State University in Sacramento. Prior to moving to California, I received a BS in Environmental Engineering from University of Sciences Hassan-II in Casablanca in Morocco.  Following my master’s degree I worked as a Water Resources Engineer at Civil Engineering Solutions, Inc.  I joined California State University-Sacramento, where I am working as a Lecturer teaching Fluid Mechanic, Hydraulic Lab. class till date.  My research interests are in Ecohydraulics for sustainable water resources infrastructures.  I enjoy reading, hiking, traveling, and baking.

Md Nayeem Khan Shahariar (PhD Student)

I am a graduate student currently pursuing my PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Clarkson University. I earned my B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in May 2023.

During my undergraduate studies, I focused my thesis on characterizing microplastics in a river in Bangladesh. I aim to expand upon this research by delving into the modeling of microplastics transport in laboratory settings, with the goal of developing a comprehensive model for a watershed. Outside of my academic pursuits, I enjoy exploring new places and engaging in outdoor games as hobbies.

Usama Butt (PhD Student)

I have completed my bachelor’s in civil engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in 2015. Then, I got my master’s degree in Civil Engineering from National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES) in 2020. I have also served as a lecturer in University of Lahore (UOL) for three years. During my job career, I have served as a patron of two societies i.e. Serving Humanity (UOL) and Sports Society (UOL), in University of Lahore.

In 2021, I have started my Doctoral Degree in Water Resources Engineering at Clarkson University under the supervision of Professor Baki. My main research interest lies in the area of sustainable hydropower development.

Besides my academic career, I am a professional soccer player and performed on the district as well as state level.

Undergraduate Students

Allyson Treichel

I am a junior undergraduate student here at Clarkson University pursuing a Civil and Environmental Engineering major. Currently I am working on a project with microplastics in parking lot stormwater runoff and also in mussels found near wastewater treatment plants. I am excited to learn and improve my research and experimental skills.

I am also a part of the Clarkson University Volleyball team. Outside of school and work I love to go on walks with my dog, paint, and garden

Ben Ronning

I am a junior here at Clarkson pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and History. I am working with Professor Baki on studying fish behaviors around different boulder patterns in a
flume. I am excited to be a part of this research because of the impacts its results may have on stream restoration and native fish range restoration, and I look forward to learning a lot throughout the research process.
Outside of Clarkson, I am a crew chief in the New York Air National Guard. In my free time I enjoy travelling, snow sports, and going on hikes with my dog.

Cooper Mattice

“I’m an undergraduate junior at Clarkson University pursuing a double major track in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a concentration in Water Resources Engineering. I am currently on the Varsity Swim & Dive team, an active member of the Honors Program, an OAS proctor, and have been awarded the Department of Defense SMART Scholarship for the Nashville District. I love to read, hangout with friends, swim and play basketball, and spend time outdoors hiking, skiing, and hammocking.”

Quinn Risen

I am a senior majoring in both environmental and civil engineering.

I have worked on a previous project on Aquatic Connectivity with Dr. Baki and am excited to work with him again with the focus on microplastics in river systems and how it impacts our environment.

In my free time, I like to be outdoors, with my main sports being rock climbing in the fall and skiing in the spring!”
