There are three 3-meter long hydraulic flumes. Each flume is 3-meters long, 15-cm wide, and 30-cm deep. The maximum flow rate is 0.0004-cms which is measured with a manometer connected to an orifice plate. The slope of the flumes can be adjusted between 15% normal slope and an adverse slope of 5%. There is a hand operated gate at the downstream end of each channel. The headbox at the upstream end of the channel has a hand operated sluice gate.
The flumes are predominantly used for educational purposes, although they have been used for research, including prototypes for the 12-meter flume.
