The 1000 Island Fluids Meeting is a technical meeting and retreat held in a casual setting for researchers from Ontario, Quebec, and the North East of the United States who work in the area of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. It is an ideal environment for graduate students to present their work and interact with the local fluid dynamics community.
Presentations and Papers
Presentations are 10 minutes long with 2 additional minutes for questions. The time slot for the talk should be reserved when registering by checking the appropriate column on the registration form below. Participants wishing to make a presentation must submit a 1-2 page abstract for their paper in electronic PDF format written using the below abstract templates. Participants not wishing to submit an abstract should be prepared to receive a substantial quantity of marbles.
Logistics
The meeting starts on the first day around 5:30 PM with dinner and closes two days later at approximately 1:30 PM after lunch. The dates are posted to the right. A tentative schedule for the presentations will be posted on the Agenda tab.
The meeting is at the Glenn House Resort which has an indoor pool area with a hot tub, tennis courts, and a range of other amenities. Meals are included in the fixed rate for the meeting. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style, while the dinner is a fixed menu with a choice of three entrees.
Cost
The cost of the meeting includes the cost of the room and meals at the Glenn House. The fixed group rates that include the rooms, meals, and coffee breaks are listed to the right and represent the latest costs according to the Glenn House. Note the cost is in Canadian $. Note also that these costs include taxes.
Registration
The organizers will make reservations with the GlenHouse for all the participants who register using the form below. The participants should include the name of any accompanying persons so that reservations are made for those persons as well. Where possible, register multiple participants from the same university or research group on a single form. Participants requesting a double room should indicate their roommate. Participants who do not have a roommate can still request a double. The organizers will attempt to pair them with another participant who wishes to share a room. If this is not possible participants will be required to take a single occupancy room and pay the higher rate. Reservations will be for both nights of the meeting, unless informed otherwise by the participant.
Cancellation Policy:
Any participant who registers, and then later decide not to attend must cancel their reservation. Participants wishing to cancel their registration 2 weeks before the conference can cancel with the organizers. Any cancellations after that date must be done directly with the Glenn House Resort at least 72 hours in advance. Participants who fail to cancel their reservation will be liable for the cost of their room if it is charged against the deposit provided by the organizers.
