Through a collaborative effort, Clarkson University has created welcoming indoor green spaces that are accessible to students, faculty, and staff. These spaces bring the benefits of nature indoors, offering opportunities to connect with plants and greenery throughout the academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indoor plants contribute meaningfully to overall wellness by helping reduce stress, supporting productivity, and improving concentration and memory retention. During the winter months, when shorter days and no access to outdoor green spaces can contribute to lower mood and energy levels, these indoor green spaces provide an especially valuable connection to nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development of these spaces was made possible through financial support from the University, along with other generous contributions. The Clarkson greenhouse, operated by the Gardening Club with support from Susan Powers, donated a number of plants and provided valuable education on plant care and maintenance. The SUNY Potsdam greenhouse also generously contributed several plants to the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dedicated team of staff members came together to develop the vision, design the spaces, gather supplies, and establish ongoing plant care and maintenance. The founding staff members are Diamante Maya, Deborah Shipp, Annabelle Petrichor, and Kate Mikel. Their collective efforts have helped transform shared campus spaces into vibrant, restorative environments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These indoor green spaces can currently be found at several locations across campus. One is located upstairs in the ERC, while another can be found in the Concrete Caf\u00e9. You’ll also noticed plants throughout the upstairs of the ERC. Additional spaces will continue to grow as this collaborative initiative develops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, these spaces reflect what can be accomplished through community, creativity, and a shared commitment to campus well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
