He then went to the College of Santa Fe and the University of New Mexico, but by 1986 he had given up academics in favor of painting full time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gray has been inspired by a number of artists over the years. Among them are&nbsp;T. C. Cannon, William de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Elmer Bischoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He draws with paint after the Abstract Expressionists, who believe that a painting is never truly finished.
