Watch the 2022 Clarkson University Reunion Weekend Native American Art Collection Lecture given by Mike Smith.

Michael A. Smith ’68 is an avid art collector who believes access to art is integral to a full educational experience and should be part of everyday life. This immediate and continual accessibility does not diminish the impact of art, but instead heightens its enjoyment, provides opportunities for a broader education, and sparks creativity.

He graciously donated the majority of his art collection to Clarkson, including hundreds of paintings, sculptures, and works in other media. With his gift, Mike helps to create a stimulating and educational visual environment throughout campus.

Mike earned his bachelor’s degree from Clarkson in 1968. He received his Master’s in cultural anthropology with a research focus on the Iroquois in 1973 and his doctorate in political science in 1975 from Syracuse University. He is a retired club executive of the National Hockey League.
