CUHEAT (Clarkson University’s Home Energy Awareness Training) is a free job training program that provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed for a career in home energy. Supported by NYSERDA, the program offers a combination of online coursework and on-the-job training to prepare individuals for success in the field.
After completing the introductory online modules, trainees can further their expertise by specializing in one of three areas: Residential Energy Auditor, Weatherization Technician, or Heating Systems Technician. With a data-driven approach and real-world applications, CUHEAT fosters career growth while empowering communities to lower energy costs and move toward a more sustainable future.

How Do I Apply?
- Submit Application – Complete the online application form.
- Review & Selection – Applications are reviewed, and selected participants will be notified via email.
Program Overview
- Accepted participants will receive program details and start their training!
- Enroll in online coursework
- Asynchronous – learn at your own pace
- Complete 8 sections of introductory course, “CU Home Energy Awareness Training”
- Enroll in a specialized course in one of the three pathways – Residential Energy Auditor, Weatherization Technician, or Heating Systems Technician
- Complete a minimum of 2 Home Energy Challenges
- In-person training
- 8-10 hours of in person training is required
- Must submit a Liability Waiver
- Options to participate in trainings related to:
- Home Energy Audits
- Weatherization Technician
- Heating Systems Technician
- Work with the CUHeat team to be placed in further trainings, internships, or on the job training
- Upon program completion, participants will receive a $500 stipend
- Enroll in online coursework
