Clarkson University Achieves HEARTSafe Campus Recognition
Clarkson University has been officially recognized as a HEARTSafe Campus by the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF)—a distinction that highlights our community’s commitment to rapid, high-quality response to cardiac emergencies. This recognition places Clarkson among a select group of colleges and universities nationwide that prioritize life-saving readiness, student leadership, and comprehensive community preparedness.
The HEARTSafe Campus initiative—supported by NCEMSF, the American Heart Association, and the Citizens CPR Foundation—promotes CPR and AED education on campuses nationwide for one simple reason: immediate CPR and quick access to an AED can save lives. By earning this designation, Clarkson demonstrates strong readiness across all major pillars of cardiac arrest response, including:
- CPR and AED trained first responders
- Rapid public access to defibrillation across campus
- Strong integration with regional advanced care providers
- Ongoing training, quality improvement, and community education
- Public CPR/AED training initiatives for students, faculty, and staff
- Engagement in preventative cardiovascular health efforts
This achievement reflects the hard work of Clarkson University Emergency Medical Services (CUEMS), whose student EMTs serve as the cornerstone of emergency care on campus. Their dedication, 24/7 response capability, and leadership in training programs made this recognition possible.
