Our Focus

The Fluid-Acoustic-Structure (FAST) Lab at Clarkson University, directed by Dr. Byron D. Erath, investigates multi-physics problems that arise in nature. While broadly encompassing the field of fluid mechanics, the primary research focus seeks to advance the understanding of laryngeal aerodynamics to improve diagnosis and treatment methods for vocal pathologies, as well as to discover novel biometric markers in speech. Dr. Erath’s work is primarily focused on experimental investigations, but also includes computational and theoretical modeling of the speech process.
